Dear all,

Sorry for the confusion, but the time of the Serious Metaphysics Group
meetings is *1:00-2:30pm* on Thursdays (not 12:30).

So the first talk will be:

Thursday the 9th of October, *1:00-2:30pm* in the Faculty Board Room,
with Dan Brigham speaking on 'Russell’s Multiple-Relation Theory of
Judgement and its Critics'.

You are still welcome to bring lunch to eat during the talk, and also to
come for coffee afterwards,

Hope to see you there,

Georgie

Abstract

I defend Russell’s multiple-relation theory of judgement from its
critics. Commentators have objected that it cannot distinguish between
the judgement that aRb and the judgement that bRa, that it cannot
account for the fact that there were truths before there were judging
subjects, that it cannot account for molecular judgements, that it
cannot accommodate the fact that when we make judgements about objects
we do so “under a description”, and that it doesn’t preclude the
possibility of judging nonsense. I rehearse the advantages of the
theory, and I respond to a number of these objections.
