Dear all, Dan Brigham is going to kick off the Serious Metaphysics Group for the new year, speaking on 'Russell’s Multiple-Relation Theory of Judgement and its Critics'. We will meet next Thursday (the 9th of October) from 12:30-2:00, in the faculty board room (note the new time). An abstract is included below.
You are welcome to bring lunch to eat during the talk, and also to come for coffee afterwards, Hope to see you there, Georgie Abstract I defend Russell’s multiple-relation theory of judgement from its critics. Commentators have objected that it cannot distinguish between the judgement that aRb and the judgement that bRa, that it cannot account for the fact that there were truths before there were judging subjects, that it cannot account for molecular judgements, that it cannot accommodate the fact that when we make judgements about objects we do so “under a description”, and that it doesn’t preclude the possibility of judging nonsense. I rehearse the advantages of the theory, and I respond to a number of these objections. _____________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from the CamPhilEvents mailing list, or change your membership options, please visit the list information page: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEvents List archive: http://bit.ly/CamPhilEventsArchive Please note that CamPhilEvents doesn't accept email attachments.
