Apple provides a solution for this in the form of the Time Capsule, no?

Obviously there are genuine cloud based services, but some are very
limited or expensive and there's always the upload speed issue (not to

save to a local external HDD without the intervention of a computer.
Is there a solution with a networked hard disk, probably connected via
wireless for convenience, with an app or similar interface to allow
straightforward backup ? Such a thing probably runs Linux, keeping it
on topic 😉
