Owncloud is something I have used for quite a while. Supports Dropbox features like versioning, remote syncing and even has calendaring and contacts support. You can drop it in for a google replacement for a lot of the services we rely on - semi off grid
I now run owncloud on a qnap device but it can be dropped onto a regular pc or pi (I believe ). It can then be combined with other cloud services for off site backups if required.
