Hi Eron
New installs will prob be the best approach, you can always save
your Linux home directory then once installed transfure it back, that
should keep all your settings a data intact; Unless of course your home
is already in a separate directory. Windows too would be the best option
to reinstall saves on problems later. I assume you have replaced router
and Ethernet cable. I had a cable once that would only work on 10mbit,
if I used it on 100mbit or a gig-bit it would drop off and/or give me
the message cable unplugged, even though the cable was strait through,
the pairs where not twisted. Would be worth double checking before
shelling out for a new motherboard. It's not much to go on but hope it
helps.

Thanks Nicky,
One of the network cards is a PCI card which I swapped slots. Looks
like a new MB then but that will probably mean new installations won't
it? The Linux disk may adapt when plugged into a new MB but I'm almost
sure the windows one won't! ???

Hello,
I had a very similar problem, minus the x2 HDD just the x1 dual
boot. Sadly it turned out I had to replace the motherboard. You could
always get a cheap pci network card and try that?

I had thought of that but I have 2 Routers & it happens with both of
them. Furthermore the problem appears to be intermittent. I am also
getting connected wirelessly to both of these routers.
There are times when we owe it to ourselves and to the ones around
us to share what we know and feel. And there are times when we
simply have nothing to offer, and best serve everyone by saying
nothing. Perhaps the wisdom comes in being able to recognize the
difference. Peace, Eron

Can anyone tell me why my computer keeps coming up with the
message, 'Network Cable Unplugged'?
I have a workstation/desktop which has 2 HDDs. One with Ubuntu
10 & another with XP Pro. I plug in whichever one I feel like
using. They both show the same error.
I have searched the Internet & tried all the suggested fixes
without success. No one seems to know what causes the problem.
No one seems to be able to fix the problem. There are 2 network
cards in this machine. The error appears on both. The only
solution I have arrived at is leaving it alone, switched on, and
it eventually comes back on of it's own accord. There is nothing
wrong with the cable.
Peace, Eron
It could be the network switch/router the PC is connected to. A
friend of mine had the same issue recently.
He replaced the router - the fault has gone.
