In the office we have a Zentyal server box doing lots of things but most of them unnecessary and we're going to replace most of it's functionality with a simple Draytek ADSL router.

However, one thing it doesn't do is DNS. So I need something that I can set up on my Linux box that'll sit out of the way doing a very basic job.

In the office I have a couple of development servers, eg server1 and server2, and for web development they'll host sites like test1.server1, test2.server1, etc. So I need DNS in the office that will map "server1" to an IP address, and "*.server1" as a cname for server1 (or an A record to the IP address if that's easier). This is something that Zentyal won't let me do without directly hacking the bind config files, which is another reason for moving on from that.

Anything else will be forwarded to an external DNS server (or just to the
router).

So bind is an option, but overkill. Should I install that on my desktop or are there better options?
