I had a play with F-Spot and it seems to be a good contender although some forums state that F-Spot doesn't save tags in to the meta-data of the photos themselves which would be an issue when it came to using different programs. I don't know if that has changed.
My intention is to mainly use a Linux machine for accessing the photos. Cheers, Stewart
