problem is you then create a £30+ cost to the recipient to source a hard 
drive and, in the case of Windows, an OS licensing or cost issue.

Using one of the many secure software hard disk wipers is a better 
approach IMHO but still leaves the OS issue - a tech savvy PC "donor" 
ought really to restore the OS to match the license on the box or put a 
nice Linux distro on it :-)
