Thanks Malc but the jumper setting in the manual does not correspond with wat is on the back of the new HDD (only four :: pins instead of eight ::::) I have tried the jumper on both but doesnt make any difference - still hangs at boot, windows is picking it up with no jumper settings, if I hot plug it only, if I try to reboot with the drive connected it wil hang again.
