As the originator of this thread, I'm beginning to feel a bit guilty
about the degree of angst it seems to have generated (albeit down a
slightly off-topic route). So can I pour a little oil on the troubled
waters by revealing that a Christmas (Xmas, WinterFest, or Last Week in
December - whatever fits your personal beliefs) miracle has occurred:

TalkTalk have assigned me my very own (UK-based) problem solver. Her
name is Lindsay and she works _directly_ for the CEO (am I beginning to
sound a bit smug?). I have her direct phone line number and she has my
entire life history - at least the bit that started when I joined TalkTalk.

She now understands that I am definitely connected to BT's Home 2000
service, rather than TalkTalk's equipment, at my local exchange, and she
also knows that the only way to fix the problem is for her to make
absolutely certain that a 're-provisioning' order gets delivered to the
Stamford exchange PDQ.

I am ecstatic - and will remain so, right up to the point when
....................... but let's not be pessimistic.

So cheer up. Always look on the bright side of life. Take out a
subscription to LXF because it's bloody good value. And buy a copy of
'The Salmon of Doubt'. If nothing else makes you laugh this week - that
definitely will.

Dave
