Hi Sara,

Similar to what others have mentioned, this is a type of true bug (Order
Hemiptera) and is from the plant bug family (Miridae). Based on the appearance
and coloration, it appears to be oak catkin mirid (Tropidosteptes quercicola),
which is associated with oak trees in spring. They can occur in large numbers
and occasionally hang out on structures, but tend to be a minor pest overall.
They're common in parts of Texas, including the Houston area.

Subject: [PestList] Help IDing small beetle

Hello,

This morning we started seeing a large number of small mottled beetles (with
wings) coming through an exterior entrance door to a lobby. At first, my
colleagues and I were concerned that they were carpet beetles, but it now seems
they are not. The beetle is approximately 0.5cm in length. Any help identifying
it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.
