We have had bait/monitor stations fail before. If you are going to trench and rod anyways I would go for termidor brand name specifically. Even though there are other firpronil treatments termidor holds the secret ingredient that bonds it with the soil for more years of protection. Any water intrusion into structure or behind siding will need to be repaired. Time to think about the shrubs that are close on that one end. Hard prune them if they are types that will reflush or pull them and replant giving them distance from the building. Replacing mulch with stone next to the structure. We have the same problem with period buildings being built so close to the dirt. I know your pain. Get pricing from a few companies. We ask for price for linear foot without structure rebuild warranty as we would rebuild or dictate reconstruction anyways but they will retreat if termites show up again. It will take 27 days for the termidor to fully work which is fine but it’s not instant. You probably will not have swarmers again this year. JTV

We inspected inside and out, including the basement, and there were a few in the basement, but not a swarm. We didn't find any evidence of mud tubes around the house. They mentioned bait stations as an option but said rod soil treatment is faster. This is the first time (in decades) that we've had a swarm. Our exterminator suggests using Phantom insecticide around the exterior perimeter of the historic house vs. using Termidor. Is one preferred over the other? Is Phantom okay to use on the exterior? Any feedback is much appreciated! Thanks!
