Any data loggers on that floor by any chance? I would love to see if there is a
correlation between people and relative humidity. If there isn't one there
existing maybe you could try one and see if it fluctuates on say the weekends
when no one is there? JTV

I didn't go through stats for the whole building, but rather chose one floor
that has a lot of people on it. During the work-from-home phase of the
pandemic we did see about a 33% reduction in trapped pests. What's weird is it
is made up almost entirely of booklice. Once people started showing back up to
work the numbers have increased to their pre-pandemic levels.

We saw an increase in pests (specifically cockroaches and rodents) associated
with absence of people, published Sept 2020 in the SPNHC newsletter (article
attached). We also saw a pretty significant (didn’t test for significance) of
all non-pests from our March-May 2020 cycle through the October-November 2020
cycle, seeing somewhat of a return to normal for November-December 2021.
Classes returned to campus in August 2020, and we spray our building twice
annually, with one occurring in late October or early November. See the
Trapping_All_jan-Feb document for a graph of our five year trend.

Rodents dropped off in January 2021 (an additional 7 between the August 14,
2020 cut off of the publication) with continued increased presence in the
building. And we’ve had none (with continued weekly trapping) since Jan 2021.

Cockroaches have continued to be problematic.

Subject: [PestList] Pest data during COVID lockdowns
In preparation for an upcoming presentation on trends in Integrated Pest
Management at the AIC 2022 meeting we are interested in hearing from any
institution that has been collecting and analyzing pest data to see what
effects the COVID lockdown and museum closures had on pest populations in your
buildings. Please feel free to respond on or off-list.
With thanks,
