Quite reasonable. This is a great idea, Jason. I just love telemetry

One thing to note, there's a RFE and (maybe? I think?) an associated
ARC out there to bring SMA/net-snmpd's codebase up to something more
contemporary. Right now it's 5.0.9-based. This will have an effect
this project so I think we should get a contract against SMA first
thing, and code it with the net-snmp API changes between 5.0.x and
5.4.x in mind.
Is there someone from within Sun who could help arrange such a contract?

+1 on the overall project premise.
Some things to sort out include MIB namespace, ie, would this exist
under
private.enterprises.sun.blah or ... ?
Yes, but that's more an implementation detail, so didn't think it was
worth bringing up unless there was actual interest in the project
first.
Also, should this project be extended beyond just a net-snmp
module, and
perhaps instrumenting the kernel more with kstats (ie, counters in
fp(7d),
which is something near and dear to my heart) which would of course
then
bubble up to the proposed?
If we want to add more, I'm fine with that, but I'd like to defer some
of that is possible just to prevent the project from trying to do too
much at once -- at least for any work that I'd be doing. If others
have parts that they think would fit in with this that they'd want to
work on that could be delivered without a lot of interdependencies,
I'm all for it.
