Duh! I didn't catch that the procession was on Aug 15; I thought is was just recently.
The feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is indeed a major religious festival in many Roman Catholic countries. We discovered that yeas ago when we visited Zermatt on August 15. They refer to it as Mariä Himmelfahrt, and it is a major event in that part of Switzerland (which produced most of the Vatican's Swiss Guards). In addition to special masses and religious processions, they have a huge folk festival with music, beer, singing, beer, dancing, beer, food, and beer. The festival included a competition among dozens of Alpenhorn groups, which then paraded through the Village. As if the mountain wasn't enough excitement for a sleepy mountain town. https://www.feiertagskalender.ch/index.php?geo=2859 https://www.zermatt.ch/en/Events/Top-Events/Folklore-Festival Dan Matyola http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/danieljmatyola On Sat, Jun 29, 2019 at 1:20 AM Alan C <[email protected]> wrote: > OK, Rick, here's the answer: > > https://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/common/assumption > > Alan C > > On 28-Jun-19 03:34 AM, Rick Womer wrote: > > John, > > > > That is a very clever thought. > > > > Alas, it is the Church de Santo Tomas, and there are about 15 Saint > Thomases listed in Wikipedia.
