A very interesting well captured set, Rick. A lot going on there. The
use of evergreen Rosemary symbolizing eternal life is an ancient
tradition at Christian funerals. I think this explains the festive
nature of the procession. The sprigs are thrown into the grave in much
the same way as flowers.

As we were returning to our hotel in Toledo, we found our way blocked by a
fairly long procession. I suspect that it started at a large church at the top
of the hill.
The desk staff at the hotel (very nearby) didn’t know what the occasion was,
and I was able to learn nothing from Señor Google. Professor Wikipedia says
that rosemary (fastened to sticks in the last couple of images) can be a symbol
of remembrance in European funerals, but the atmosphere of this crowd was
festive rather than funereal.
Comments and enlightenment welcome!
