But the pose of thebird and the composition in the first shot is much
more interesting... the bird's body doesn't seem noisy - just the
background..

For this one I put on the DA 1.4 AF converter and slowed the shutter
speed down to 1/80th, I was able to get the ISO down to about 1500.
(The bird, a Junko, was also in better light.)

The much slower shutter speed works fine if the bird down’t move, but
if he takes off I’ll lose what might be a good shot.
Tons of fun in the backyard.I shot the pics sitting in a lawn chair
with the camera on a tripod. I think sitting s a plus because it
minimizes my size.
