G'day all
Just seeking a bit of list wisdom.
When I travel I usually take my laptop and a portable hard drive to
back up images as I go. I keep one copy on the laptop, another on the
portable drive and I also ensure that I don't reuse any full SD cards
until all images are safely transferred to my home storage.
However...
My wife and I are planning a trip to the north-west of Australia next
autumn. It's too far to drive and I wouldn't be confident of driving
on many of the roads in the area anyway. So, we'll probably take a
package tour with one of the operators in that area. This means that
the amount of luggage will be restricted and taking the laptop may not
be feasible, although I'll have my Samsung tablet.
Looking at backup options I'm considering one of the new portable hard
drives that have a built-in card reader (eg. Western Digital's 1TB My
Passport Wireless). At $250, it's more expensive than I'd like but
perhaps it's the best way.
Alternatively I could take several USB sticks, but that would mean
copying full cards to the Samsung tablet and then copying them back
out to the USBs. Pretty tedious but it would probably work as long as
I'm careful not to mislay the little buggers.
Another possibility would be to connect a portable hard drive to the
Samsung tablet but as far as I can make out, that's not possible, at
least with an unpowered drive.
Are there any other alternatives that I've overlooked?
