I use Time Machine to backup everything on my system except my Lightroom catalogs and photos. For them, I have ChronoSync and a carefully designed set of synchronizer scripts that archive all my data to two additional, separate, backup drives. A third backup drive is in rotation with the second on a monthly basis and is stored off-site.
I only use cloud backup storage for a small fraction of my stuff, mostly for when I'm traveling.
