i use Time Machine too, though not for photos (i do a periodic clone and secondary non-incremental backups to cover things like photos); Time Machine is by far the easiest way to do reliable incremental backups on a Mac
here's a Time Machine technique that i've been meaning to explore: rotating two or more separate Time Machine drives in order to keep one off-site:
