Nothing scientific, but yes. They had a display demonstrating the difference between HD and "classic multicoating" at Photokina, the difference was visible (higher contrast). Not sure if the "classic multicoating" was their best SMC, and I wouldn't necessarily assume that. Then, the Pentax Forums review is linked to in the original post. This is the specific section we're interested in: http://www.pentaxforums.com/reviews/hd-pentax-limited-primes/aberrations-and-flare.html They were able to see a difference - when there's a strong light source in the frame, at least - and so do I. I remember seeing a Japanese quick test showing a similar difference. As I see it, there's no reason for me to update my smc Limiteds to HD ones; but I'd still want the new coating on new lenses.
