Yes, we're home. We only evacuated for three or four hours on
Thursday evening. We're not going to hang around if things
deteriorate over the next few days. A house can be rebuilt. That

large lake nearby than can be used by water bombing helicopters.
Those helicopter pilots have big brass balls, flying directly over
all that heat & smoke in such windy conditions with a massive weight
of water slung below. My hat goes off to them.
Mine too.
It wasn't a helicopter but one of the fixed wing water bombers crashed
while fighting fires on the south coast of New South Wales. It was in
rugged country with swirling winds and lots of smoke. Sadly the pilot
died.
On a happier note, the fire danger has subsided in most areas with
cooler temperatures. The fires are still burning and could break out
again as there is no substantial rain on the forecast for the next
week or so.

My mother in law's partner has family in the Blue Mountains but the
last I heard they are safe and well.
Keep yourselves safe... I expect we may see a bit of haze over here
in a few days time. It happens occasionally with the really big
fires.
Cheers,
Dave
