Those helicopter pilots have big brass balls, flying directly over all that 
heat & smoke in such windy conditions with a massive weight of water slung 
below.  My hat goes off to them.

My mother in law's partner has family in the Blue Mountains but the last I 
heard they are safe and well.

Keep yourselves safe... I expect we may see a bit of haze over here in a few 
days time.  It happens occasionally with the really big fires.
