I thought of that, but it would likely make my first 8 hours of having
the machine pure hell, and even more hellish if I can't find the right
drivers, if they're different between 7 & 8. That's unless it comes
pre-configured with 7.

I've had two 17" Win laptops and while heavy, like the large work
space. Most of my photo-editing is done away from my desktop because
1) my office is a mess and 2) I usually do it when on the road.

Now with Retina display, there's probably no way I'd choose less
unless it was with a 1920 x 1080 display

I feel in the Microsoft-punishing mindset at the moment. :)
