Given the choice would you remain on Windows 7?
I've Win7 x64 for my desktop at home and WinXP x64 for HTPC also at home. Both work just fine. Now, being a programmer and not wanting bleeding edge, my motto - if it ain't broken, don't even think about fixin' it...
It seems that Win7 is stable, well supported and in general probably the best OS MS ever produced. So I plan to stick to it for as much as I can.
It ought to be mentioned that WinXP on my HTPC is merely because I previously bought a license and having upgraded my desktop to Win7 I got it laying around collecting e-Dust. Now it serves my girls well playing DVDs for them.
I was in the market for a new laptop, but now it'll likely be a problem finding what I want with Windows 7. Hence my thoughts on a Mac.
I think that most of modern laptops can be downgraded from Win8 to Win7... But you might want to triple check that once you zero on the specific model or series that you'd fancy...
However in that arena, I'm a little chagrined that they apparently no longer offer a 17" display.
That's not Steve Ballmer's fault, you know... Though now that Sinofsky is out, may be his aversion to Win7 will subside and 1-7" :-) displays will be back en vogue...
