It may not be oil. I lost my wonderful Bow-Wow Takumar to water damage, and the only noticeable symptom was a slow diaphragm. The shop looked at it, and sent me a very devastating note, outlining the problems and the chance of recovery. I put the lens in a shoe box and buried it in the back yard.
