2)  What I do to trim things down is after I make a rough selection, I have my 
girlfriend go through my pictures in lightroom and select ones she likes, I 
then go through and pick the best of those.  I'm afraid I can't loan her to 
you, but maybe you have someone who can go through your photos and rate them.  
I find that having multiple viewpoints in the selection process really helps.
