in 1984 i was friends with a guy in high school who was all accuphase, luxman, dynaudio, tube amps, thorens turntables... my gf at the time went to school with the local revox and t+a studio owner's son... and in between was moi with his puny little used pioneer amp (but it had the coolest blue electroluminescent level indicators on the planet) and a buch of crappy old components i can't even remember... took me until i was 36 to finally get the system i dreamed of... two years later my hearing went bad from too much stress... oh shucks...
