# I'm not sure you've quite nailed this set yet. There's certainly

I'm certain I haven't.

# potential with those bright colours.

I look at it as both the potential for a decent photo, and the chance
to learn. Sometimes there is one obvious shot of a subject, and
getting a decent shot of it is straight forward. But this is a
situation, where there is obvious potential, but how to make the best
of it is far less than obvious. Combine that with the fact that
everyone's taste differs, and the feedback that I'm getting is very
educational.

# Of these I think IMGP1521 works best

I'd also like to know why you think it works. I kind of like the way
the various elements keep drawing the eye in a circle, the trees take
you away to the right, the red down and the curb back. When the sun
and the flowers come out, I think that there will also be some nice
pink and green to offset the red and yellow.

# but it's spoiled by the tree trunk directly behind the hydrant.

Good point. I don't remember what I was trying for then. A lot of the
shots yesterday were, admittedly, taken by putting the camera next to
the ground and aiming in the general direction. I knew I wanted a low
angle, but the ground was wet, so for these test shots I took the lazy
way out and made use of autofocus and the fact that digital frames
don't cost me anything to shoot.

# Perhaps a shooting position a bit further to the right would separate
# the trunk and the hydrant and also make the hydrant less centred (which
# might bring better balance to the composition). The closer shots
# (1520/1515) don't work for me - there are two distinct points of

Interesting point, and looking at them again, they don't exactly
balance each other.

# interest. I think a shooting position that made the hydrant and the
# valves closer together would be preferable.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks a bunch for the feedback.

Photographs are like sentences, the best ones have both subjects and verbs.
