Hi Dave: I agree with what Paul says below. Also, I shot ISO 400 w/ center-weight metering mode, and camera EV +.7 & for the shot with the kids blowing out the candles I shot ISO 1600 w/ spot metering mode and camera EV +1.3 (the lights were off) --most were shot 1/50 sec @ f4 --and my parents have egg white ceilings which helps; the ceilings in my flat are kind of beigey and it warms the shot up. And when using the P-TTL, I was constantly adjusting the flash compensation--constantly--up a half stop, full stop, down etc but mostly up--further way from subject--up it went--closer--at 0.0 or lower. I rechecked my Lightroom rendering data before posting here & a few of the shots I bumped up the exposure in Lightroom to +.40, but not many--most of the shots that were shown are as shot. All of this was on the K20D. I''ll try to do a test later today with the K10D. HTH. Big cheers, Christine

I like some of these shots, but you're right, they are flat and overexposed. You may have had too much ambient light. Your exposure setting should be a stop or two below ambient. For example, if the ambient light gives you an f4, 1/30th exposure, shoot at 5.6. 1/30th. Then the flash will be the main light and the ambient light will be fill. That's how I shoot most of my indoor flash pics, and it appears to be what Christine was doing. What's more, I shoot everything in RAW. Flash pics usually need some rendering help. These could have been greatly improved in conversion.

Lucy and Boo were in a more then normal play mood yesterday, so i
thought this would be a good time to get the K10D out and try some
bounce flash, using the recently suggested settings, and hoping to get
something close to Christine's examples.

http://web.mac.com/barnyardcam/iWeb/Site/K10D-AF360%20Test.html

Again disappointed in my results. Even thought the histogram shows up
well, they all look washed out and flat to me.

All were in bounce mode except those noted as direct. Number 1229 and
the shot of the bush are in direct flash. No matter what i did with
the shots of the cats in the bay window, i could not get them lit up
well. I used manual mode in all, and the cat shots in the window were
exposed for back ground, flash in HS mode, but it still did not throw
the kind of fill light i had hoped for.

K10D, AF 360, 77Ltd F4, Tv 1/30-1/60 except for cats in window, were
Tv is around 1/2000.

Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Oh, ambient light is from a southerly bay window, with some sun
streams in 1 spot.

Dave
