No, the issue for labs is that if they reproduce something that is
copyrighted they are on the hook for it. If a customer came in with
copyrighted material and said it wasn't, the lab is still liable if
they reproduce it. So they either need a sworn statement from the
photographer on company letterhead authorizing the customer to make
copies (prints) or the customer has to sign a statement indicated
that he is the original owner/creator of the image(s).
Man, I am so glad I have a photo lab.....
I am even gladder that it doesn't say Wal-Mart on the front door.
I watched the slow and steady intrusion of digital into the photo lab
business, realized that the big companies were going to be both half assed
about it, and retarded to boot, and took the first opportunity given to me
to get the hell out of Dodge.
The funny thing is, they could solve 98% of their customer service problems
by installing EXIF reading software onto their labs (I had Irfanview on my
Wally lab), but they don't have the brains to do it.
Instead, they would rather annoy honest customers by presuming they are
lying thieves to cover thgeir asses against the very small % who actually
are lying thieves.
