Sure it will be protected, that's positive. Special events, which were
money making endeavors, however will be curtailed, after all can't
allow outsiders the opportunity to damage the state's property. What
was the center of a lively community will become at best a specimen
frozen in amber at worst fossilized bones on display. I've seen too much
of that happen, (both in person, and through research), to other
"treasures" run by states.

Making this a state park adds to it's protected status.
Having met Hugh, Crae, and a number of the other Mortons,
I have no reason to doubt their integrity of desire to preserve
Hugh Morton's legacy.

NC is a state government, state web sites in most US states, unless directly
connected with taxes are notoriously out of date, and the GFM deal hasn't
yet been consummated. I don't expect that it won't happen, just that any
changes will happen afterward.
