Go to the bathroom and get yourself a cardboard tube from inside a roll of toilet paper. Put it to your eye and take note of how much of the view you can see through the tube. Now cut the tube in half and look through it again. You can see more of the view. This is because the angle from opposite points on the ends of the short tube is wider than the angle from the same points on the long tube.
