Almost the same thing here. I prefer the bitingly sharp optic of the F* 300/4.5, but I still have an A* 300/4, which fits in the camera bag more easily (you can't get a 300/4 any smaller than this critter - <g>). I'll use the F* when it happens to be not less convenient to carry it, but the A* is more likely to see action due to its size. (The f/4 vs f/4.5 difference is fairly small, so that generally doesn't figure into the decision.) Fred
