I jumped at the chance to get the F* lens for two reasons. Firstly
it has AF. Secondly, and more importantly, it focuses much closer
(2m). Luckily I am able to cope with the 1/2-stop hit in speed. I
certainly can't afford a 300mm f/2.8 and my back is bad enough
already without having to carry one.
My F*300 has been modified by its previous owner... he took the
tripod mount to a metal shop and they chopped it down a bit which
makes it much easier to fit in the bag. I still have some photos of
