Hi Lawrence and all,

You are right, including the history behind it.
It is always pronounced in Japan "Neekon" but with short "I" (Ni-Kon), and
it is the correct pronunciation.
"NAI-Kon" is North American way of pronunciation and it has been like that
as far as I remember.  It is like pronouncing "Iraq" as "AI-Raq" (no
political comment).
