The first 1000/8 Takumar lens was not a telephoto design. It was a long focus design. i.e. the lens is 1000mm long. Telephoto designs have barrels signifigantly SHORTER than the focal length. the telephoto takumar 1000/8 lenses are only 720mm long. JCO
