Yep, even Kodak now tells you to meter off their grey card and then open up
1/2 stop.

On the other hand, Galen Rowell's last column in Outdoor Photographer was a
very interesting exploration of the great differences in metering between
one camera and another example of the same make and model so there's no way
of telling how close to ANSI standard any given light meter really is
without testing the particluar unit you have.
