It remembers which frame you are on when the CR2 battys are changed, so
there must be some 'non-volatile' memory.  No reason why exposure data,
and in fact film number and PFs couldn't be part of this.  I am not
convinced I lost my PFs either - I will check tonight.  I could care
less about the film number, but the PFs and exposure info should be
kept...
