I know I'm a bit late with this, but noone has really cleared this up,
and I've been away.

My manual says nothing about the counter being reset when the batteries
are changed - it does comment that when the batteries are changed then
data imprinting will be "enabled".  It also says that if you turn it
off then the counter will be reset.  It also states that the imprinting
is powered by the camera's battery not the data back's battery.  How
many people out there have played with the settings on their camera?  I
have changed the batteries several times as I changed from BG10 grip to
CR2 batteries and back and not lost the counted number of rolls.
