What you said aside, you are quoting someone else in response to a message
they wrote, not me.

Yes, and no. "sniping" is an art (and risky business). You also have to have

a little luck when you snipe.
I bid my maximum at the beginning of the auction, knowing that whatever ~it~

is, another (~whatever~ it is) will come along in a minute or two...with the

likely exception of the now $4,750 PENTAX treasure trove.
*Oh, you gotta be skillful with your refresh button, hit it about every
thirty seconds or so when there are fewer than 5 minutes left, allowing 30
to
45 seconds for your last input.
If the eBay official time is 1 minute or less, type and submit your last
(highest) bid right then...then cross your fingers.
*Your chances of success on any given item, now that I've broadcast to the
PDML the most successful way to snipe?
Good to poor, according to the speed of your fingers and the steadiness of
your nerves. Sniping is a quick draw-luck of the draw (fastest in the last
15
seconds before closing) art, thrilling sometimes, even in defeat,
devastating
in those times when you ~really~, ~really~ wanted that whatchamacallit and
some son-of-a biscuit beats you to it.
*I've been waiting for a certain lens, have the money I intend to pay for it

in a small CD and will bet the full load if the lens ever comes up. Anyone
who wants it more than me can have it, but they must have guts, knowing eBay

will bid my proxy bid (assuming it's the highest) until the last second, so
sniping probably won't work (against me).
*I'm never angry when someone beats me because 1) I still have my money and
2) another whatchamacallit will happen along any time now...
