it seems to me that this is A Good Thing. When you look at the prices
of Pentax/Takumar equipment in the 1960s and adjust for inflation they
were incredibly expensive. Certainly well out of reach of the average
person, so photography was essentially restricted to the rich or
highly enthusiastic. Having differently priced grades of equipment
certainly democratises the activity.
