You're absolutely right, the Bose Wave Radio does sound a little odd but then again, the Soundlink - or at least the Soundlink Air I have - is a bigger unit than the Bose Wave radio, I have a Bose Wave Radio II and its very nice sounding considering its size but it has many disappointments which could put a lot of people off buying one.
Thankfully the Bose Wave III Radio is now available and I'm told that many of the problems in the Wave II have been addressed and corrected. For example, the Wave II has a nice sound for its size but the AM radio sounds absolutely dreadful, sensitivity is okay. FM is very average but at least you can plug an external FM antenna into the radio and do something about the reception.
