Again, how do you have your Apple TV connected? Does your TV or device you have 
the Apple TV connected to have more than one HDMI input port? If it doesn't 
then you may run into problems and you may have to choose which you watch, your 
Apple TV or your cable box.

That was one of the mina reasons behind me getting a AV receiver, one of its 
features was multiple HDMI ports, in fact it has 6 which is more than enough 
for me right now.
