I'm confused. I have an "audio console but no tone controls in advaced there. All I see there are the volume controls for CD, midi etc. Still, not sure what you mean by "windows mixer".

My older Creative card didn't have that option till I rebuilt my system. Then all of a sudden, I had tone controls under the advanced button in the mixer. Before that, I had to mss around with the Creative Surround mixer, locking the Jaws cursor at just the right place and using Jaws mouse up and down key strokes to get the tone controls to work. I hope your X-FI installer put in standard tone controls under advanced controls in the Windows mixer.
