Bruce, I have a pair of Labtec speakers that I like a lot. I think I paid around twenty-five dollars for them. The frequency response goes down to eighty Hz so they don't have a great deal of base but they sound pretty good.
If you want to spend two hundred and fifty dollars Advent has a pair of AV570 speakers that have a frequency response down to forty Hz. They should sound real nice but I have never heard them.
