For the past two elections, I relied on precedent for setting up the poll.
I realize that doing "what we did before" is not necessarily a good
justification, but it's what I had to go on when I unexpectedly became the
interim PM in June, 2018.

Note that the election results are always verified by others before I
announce them.  For this year's election, I had Jim Baker and Bin Hu
confirm the results.  I also keep a screenshot of the results page in case
there is ever any question.

That being said, I think it's worth considering whether improvements can be
made so that the process is more transparent.
