I guessed that, but you don't need 8MB for a backup image.

Hmm, why should there be any such surprises? I think the original
firmware perfectly restores both images.

Also, when something goes wrong, the G3G waits for a firmware image
until it get's one, which is AFAIR much safer that the WRT54G's behaviour.

Why not make it a choice in the advanced options then?

(Anyway, I don't like the idea of a backup image. OpenWrt is already for
"skilled people".)
