Solaris 10 does not have this feature yet. It's only just been integrated into OpenSolaris. Your analogy is pretty much on target. Except the part about upgrading. Using Live Upgrade makes upgrading from one version of OpenSolaris to the next (provided your talking about Sun's distribution of OpenSolaris called Solaris Express) painless.
