The reason I suggested parametrization is that one can control the prototype 
and pre- and post- install/remove scripts with just the pkginfo file.

For instance, with parametrization and some careful design, it is possible to 
use a single prototype file for both sparc and i86pc.

But, perhaps you're right, for a well established process, it might be too 
risky to change anything. It was just a suggestion.
